IEEE Rail Transit Vehicle Interface Standards Committee

WG3 Monitoring & Diagnostics 1482 meeting 18

STV INC., 1818 Market St., Suite 1410

Philadelphia, PA19103

Contact: Chris Holliday 215 832 3520

1.  Introduction

Dave Gregson chaired the meeting for Rob McHugh (a list of participants is attached). Thanks to Chris Holiday for hosting.

2.Review of the status of the standard

Scope and Purpose were reviewed to highlight that they must be retained in their present form but the standard’s emphasis is up to the group’s discretion. The other related published standards need to be considered along with IEC-TC9 and APM work.

The latest drafts can be accessed from TSD.org, user name:transit;password:railway.

3.Review of the section-by-section comments

The structure of the MDS as presented in the tables at the beginning of section 4.0 in the draft standard was discussed in detail. Train and Vehicle Bus definitions can be lifted from 1473 Fig 1. The detailed examples in the next section will elaborate the use of the matrix.

The matrix along with some supporting examples as presented to the full committee was simplified further.

Data logging and retrieval issues such as media, formats, post-processing are important issues and should be addressed in the standard.

The table of contents needs to be updated.

4.0 Coordination with other Working Groups

Display/display formats need to be addressed; WG2 1474.2 paragraph 4.5

Would be a good starting point.

A reminder that data collected by the M&DS can be stand-alone but integration into a WAN for post processing will provide maximum benefit.

WG3 will have an informative annex of data elements, which will be passed on to WG9 to formalize.

Christian Gerard to check if the LIRR definitions can be used by WG3.

5.0 Next Meeting

The group expressed interest in holding the next meeting just before the full committee in sept.

Rob has tentatively booked MUNI, 1145 Market St, at Civic Centre Station, San Francisco, for Tues. 18th Sept.
