IEEE Rail Transit Vehicle Interface Standards Committee
WG9, TRANSIT COMMUNICATIONS INTERFACE PROFILES FOR RAIL APPLICATIONS
Third Meeting, Aug. 5&6, 1998
American Public Transport Association 1201 New York Avenue, N.W., Washington DC
Meeting called to order at 10:00 a.m.
Dave Phelps welcomed everyone on behalf of the host, APTA.
Rob McHugh introduced himself and introductions continued around the table. A list of attendees is attached.
The agenda was reviewed and accepted as attached.
The minutes of the last meeting were reviewed and accepted as written.
Frank Boyle of Union Switch and Signal gave a presentation on the standardization efforts of the Object Management Group ( OMG ). Tom McGean agreed to try and formalize a working relationship between OMG and IEEE.
Tom McGean, Chair of the IEEE-RTVISC, updated the proposed working arrangements between the IEEE–RTVISC WG9 and the ITE–TCIP. Tom stressed the arrangement allows balloting by the Rail Community.
The TCIP effort initiated by the Institute of Transportation Engineers, Standards for Intelligent Transit Systems, uses the NEMA hierarchical addressing convention and ASN.1 data types to create data and message object databases. The on-board object sets were of particular interest to the IEEE-RTVISC WG9 since they have rail object set placeholders. The web site for TCIP is
www.TCIP.org but will soon be consolidated with the Transit Standards Consortium.
Wording for the PAR title, scope and purpose was reviewed and discussed. The title was agreed as:
TRANSIT COMMUNICATIONS INTERFACE PROFILES FOR RAIL APPLICATIONS. Rob agreed to circulate a detailed Scope and Purpose as they would appear in the PAR. These will be edited for submittal at the next WG9 meeting. Rob McHugh and Tom McGean agreed to establish the detailed process of data entry between IEEE and ITE.Rob McHugh agreed to obtain input of the WG Chairs for entry of their working groups data elements. Dave Phelps agreed that his WG data elements were formally defined and could be directly entered into the database at this time. Peter Zuber will attempt to get an electronic copy of the ROSIN data elements as a basis of comparison. WG3 was represented by Linda Palmatier as a point of contact.
A joint meeting was held with the TCIP group on Aug. 6th.
Paula Okunieff introduced Bancroft Scott of Open Systems Solutions who presented an ASN.1 overview. Check
www.oss.com for details. It was proposed that the next meeting be held on Sept 29,1998. Peirre Zuber offered to host the meeting at Adtranz in Pittsburg PA
