Thompson School District serves as a cornerstone of the community, delivering high-quality education while contributing to the well-being, economic vitality, and civic life of Northern Colorado.

As the 17th largest district in the state, we proudly serve over 15,000 students across 31 schools and support countless families, businesses, and residents—whether or not they have children enrolled.

The focus on students’ academic excellence, employees’ success, educational equity, and a supportive community is what sets us apart from other school districts.

Community Impact

Beyond the Classroom

Partnerships stretching far beyond school walls

Our commitment to community well-being includes innovative partnerships, such as collaboration with The Matthews House to support The Landing youth shelter, coordination with KidsPak to provide weekend food bags to students in need, and partnering with Pulse to expand internet access in underserved neighborhoods.

Building the Local Economy

Programs empowering future professionals

Through career pathways, internships, and dual-credit programs at facilities like Thompson Career Campus, TSD prepares students for jobs that strengthen our local economy. Every graduate contributes to a skilled, resilient workforce that benefits the region.

These programs are made possible by a network of dedicated departments — such as transportation, nutrition services, innovative technology solutions, and student support services — that ensure students are supported and ready to succeed each day.

Civic Engagement and Public Service

Volunteering and Mentoring

Strengthening student success together

From retirees to local business owners, TSD welcomes all community members to serve as volunteers and mentors. Programs like VITAL (Volunteers in Thompson Assisting Learning) enhance student support and deepen community bonds.

Shared Spaces, Shared Purpose

Schools at the heart of the community

Our schools double as gathering places — hosting public meetings, cultural events, recreational programs, and more. TSD facilities are truly spaces for the entire community to connect.

Vision, Strategy, and Leadership

Strategic Long-Term Planning

Turning shared goals into action with purpose, partnership, and planning

At Thompson School District, long-term planning is rooted in shared values and bold aspirations. Our strategic plan, Strive 2025, outlines four key priorities: student achievement, inclusive and supportive culture, human talent, and responsible stewardship of resources. Together, these priorities guide every decision we make.

One outcome of this work is our Portrait of a TSD Graduate—a shared vision that defines the skills and mindsets our students need to thrive in school, career, and life.

Achieving this vision requires more than strategy—it takes investment. In 2018, our community supported a bond measure to modernize schools, enhance safety and security, and accommodate growth. Future investment would continue this momentum by addressing critical infrastructure and evolving learning environments across the district.

Leadership and Accountability

Building trust, modeling transparency, and ensuring every voice helps shape our direction

Leadership matters — and at Thompson School District, we take pride in responsible governance, community collaboration, and transparent operations. Our Board of Education and district leadership work in partnership with staff, families, and community members to guide the district with integrity and responsiveness.

We publish accessible reports, performance dashboards, school accountability frameworks, and detailed financial records to ensure our goals, investments, and outcomes—including financial transparency—are clear to everyone we serve.

The District Accountability Committee provides ongoing feedback and input on improvement planning, while policies like the Student Code of Conduct and our Student Data Privacy and Security commitments help ensure a safe and respectful learning environment.

The District Unified Improvement Plan and Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Local Report share our progress and equity commitments with families, staff, and the community.
