Waypoint 2A Supportive and High-Performing Team Culture
Strategic Focus
Create an environment where authentic collaboration, predictable safety, competitive compensation, and continuous professional growth make Thompson School District the best place to build a career in education.
Arrival Points
Goal 2.1
Secure the Foundation and Elevate Staff Culture
Optimize physical, social, and emotional safety across all campuses so staff can focus on delivering the best educational experience to every student.
- Define Standards of Excellence for Core Values. Convene a representative, cross-departmental team to operationalize the newly adopted Thompson Compass Core Values into actionable Standards of Excellence. This cross-functional group will clearly define what living these values looks like in daily practice across both instructional and operational departments.
- Establish Campus Safety and Behavioral Protocols. Define and maintain clear, transparent safety protocols, behavioral expectations, and crisis response procedures across all operational and academic departments.
- Embed Leadership Rounding and Routine Check-Ins. Institutionalize a simple, routine leadership rounding process across departments and schools—using brief check-ins to listen to staff, identify workplace roadblocks, recognize peer excellence, and offer immediate support.
- Gather Regular Workplace Feedback. Use brief staff surveys to gather authentic feedback, identify trends, and involve employees directly in decisions.
- Expand Comprehensive Staff Wellness. Provide proactive mental health resources, wellness initiatives, and sustainable workload practices to help staff manage workplace stress and prevent burnout.
- Streamline Onboarding and Offboarding. Provide clear onboarding and offboarding experiences that connect every employee's role to the district’s core values, mission, and long-term vision.
Goal 2.2
Cultivate Instructional Excellence
Deepen our professional learning community (PLC) culture and continuous growth framework to guarantee that no student's academic needs are left to chance. By routinely aligning our instructional practices, analyzing real-time data, and embedding effective teaching frameworks, educator teams will rapidly adjust interventions so every individual learner receives immediate, targeted support.
- Normalize Team Expectations. Establish, monitor, and hold PLC teams collectively accountable to shared norms and operational values while unpacking essential learning targets to clarify exactly what students must know and be able to do.
- Implement Collaborative Data Cycles. Provide dedicated collaborative time for educator teams to co-design common formative assessments (CFAs), routinely analyze student data, and immediately adjust instruction and interventions.
- Embed Thompson School District’s Instructional Framework. Ground daily teaching in effective, research-backed practices supported by routine instructional walk-throughs, peer observation cycles, and collaborative analysis of student work.
- Deliver Aligned, Growth-Oriented Professional Learning. Provide targeted, ongoing professional development designed to build teacher capacity for effective framework implementation and learner responsiveness.
Goal 2.3
Fuel and Recruit the Workforce
Elevate recruitment strategies, total compensation, and professional pathways for all staff.
- Optimize Total Compensation. Systematically review, adjust, and maintain total compensation structures (wages, benefits, and incentives) to position Thompson as an employer of choice for all roles.
- Broaden Recruitment Networks. Expand proactive, inclusive recruitment networks and university partnerships to attract top-tier, diverse talent across all departments.
- Integrate Operational Teams. Integrate non-instructional departments into the district’s continuous improvement framework, ensuring operational teams have the tools, resources, and input to optimize their environments.
Waypoint 2B Leadership Excellence and Growth
Strategic Focus
Developing agile, visionary, and accountable leaders across all operational bands — from frontline supervisors to the executive cabinet — by embedding district expectations for leadership excellence to drive sustainable, district-wide outcomes.
Arrival Points
Goal 2.4
Strengthen Leadership Standards
Clearly define and support leadership expectations across all departments.
- Institutionalize District Standards. Introduce the district leadership standards system-wide and deliver targeted professional learning opportunities mapped directly to those expectations.
- Align Systemic Frameworks. Audit and align evaluation systems, operational protocols, and departmental structures to the established leadership standards.
- Resource Leadership Development. Protect and provide the time, professional tools, and coaching resources leaders need to grow their instructional and operational practices continuously.
Goal 2.5
Cultivate the Leadership Pipeline
Standardize recruitment, cohort-based onboarding, and professional advancement pathways to ensure leadership sustainability.
- Launch Cohort-Based Onboarding. Execute a structured, cohort-based experience for newly appointed or promoted leaders, equipping them to balance the human side of leadership—coaching, team dynamics, and culture with data-driven disciplines and standard operating execution.
- Expand the Aspiring Leaders Pipeline. Provide clear, transparent development pathways for teacher-leaders, PLC facilitators, technical specialists, and frontline staff to align their emerging skills with district leadership standards.
- Formalize Growth Opportunities for Support Staff. Deliver structured career ladders and professional growth tracks specifically tailored for support staff, operational teams, and office personnel.
