Colorado Career Cluster: Hospitality, Human Services, and Education
Family and Consumer Science courses in Education and Training are offered at Loveland High School, Mountain View High School, and Thompson Valley High School.
Students who take Family and Consumer Sciences courses may join Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA).

Recommended High School Course Sequence
Grade 9 and/or Grade 10
Take one or more of these courses if offered at your home high school.
- Child and Adolescent Development (8125) (LHS, MVHS, TVHS)
- Education Exploration (8011) (LHS)
- Early Childhood Education 101 (8012) (LHS, TVHS)
- Early Childhood Education 102 (8013) (TVHS)

Grade 11 or 12
Start Teacher Cadet as a Junior or Senior
Teacher Cadet at Loveland High School — open to all TSD high school students. Double-blocked class. This class will be Tuesday/Thursday Periods 1 and 3 or 5 and 7, or Wednesday/Friday Periods 2 and 4 or 6 and 8. Mondays are asynchronous.
- Semester 1 — Teacher Cadet 1 (8014, 8015)
- Classroom learning and observation in elementary schools
- Semester 2 — Teacher Cadet 2 (8016, 8017)
- Internship in elementary school under guidance of teacher
Grade 12 Option
Teacher Recruitment Education and Preparation (TREP) prerequisite concurrent college class — successfully complete one college course (tuition paid by TSD) on the TREP menu to qualify to apply for the TREP program.
Year 5 and 6 (after high school)
Teacher Recruitment Education and Preparation (TREP) 2-year concurrent college program
Teacher Cadet Information
- This program is offered at Loveland High School and is open to juniors and seniors from all TSD high schools
- College credit opportunity is available for qualifying students articulating to one of the following schools: CCU, CSU, CSU Pueblo, CU Boulder, UCCS, CU Denver, UNC, Western Colorado University, and the Colorado Community College System
- Students have the opportunity to earn multiple certifications
- Students must provide their own transportation to and from Loveland High School.
- Application form required including teacher recommendation.

Educator Apprenticeship and Teacher Recruitment Education and Preparation (TREP) prerequisite concurrent college class
- Paid Work: Work 16-24 hours per week in a TSD elementary school alongside teachers or other staff
- Related Training Required: successfully complete one college course (tuition paid by TSD) on the TREP menu to qualify to apply for the TREP program.
Year 5 and 6 (after high school)
Educator Apprenticeship and Teacher Recruitment Education and Preparation (TREP) 2-year concurrent college program.
Registered Apprenticeship is complete at 2000 hours of work, 144 hours of related training (mainly through TREP program).
- Paid Work: Work 20+ hours per week in a TSD elementary school alongside teachers or other staff
- Related Training Required: Complete college coursework through TREP 2-year concurrent college program and other related trainings provided by TSD
- Earn industry certifications
Apprenticeship Information
- Students must successfully complete Teacher Cadet 1 and 2 in order to apply for apprenticeship.
- Acceptance into the Apprenticeship program is not guaranteed. Apprenticeship is a paid employment opportunity that involves a screening and interview process.
- This is a Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship (RAP). An RAP has the following requirements for completion:
- 2000 hours of paid on-the-job training (work hours)
- 144 hours of related training (college coursework or other related training that is provided by/paid for by the employer)
- Participation in this apprenticeship program requires that the apprentice also be in the TREP program, which provides 2 years of free college coursework related to education and articulation to various CO colleges and universities.
- Apprentices also earn credentials or certifications.
