How to earn the TSD Seal of Biliteracy
Demonstrating language proficiency
The Colorado High School Seal of Biliteracy is a credential for graduating high school seniors who can communicate in the interpersonal, interpretive and presentational modes at the intermediate-mid proficiency range or higher in another language as well as at a high level in English. In order to earn the Seal, students who are seniors must demonstrate their proficiency of both English and another world language using the approved criteria listed here.
1. Complete all graduation requirements.
You must fulfill all requirements to graduate from a TSD high school in order to earn the TSD Seal.
2. Show proficiency in English
Students must complete one of the following:
| ACT (English section) | 18 or higher |
| AP English Language & Composition | 3 or higher |
| AP English Literature & Composition | 3 or higher |
| IB English Language & Literature A | 4 or higher |
| SAT (English section) | 480 or higher |
| English 121-Community College Course | C or better |
| Access test scores (taken in high school only) (English Language Learners) |
4.0 Overall and 4.0 in Literacy |
| AAPPL Language Assessment in English (Heritage or Native Language students of languages other than English) |
I4 or higher (Intermediate-mid or higher) on 3 of the 4 sections |
3. Show proficiency in a world language.
Students must complete one of the following in their senior year:
| AP Spanish Language, AP French Language, AP German Language |
3 or higher |
| IB Spanish B, IB French B, IB German B | 4 or higher |
| AAPPL Language Assessments are available in Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), English, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Thai. | I4 or higher (Intermediate-mid or higher) on all four sections |
