Common Core State Standards

What they are, how they work, and what it means for you and your child.

What is the Common Core State Standards Initiative?

The Common Core State Standards Initiative is a state-led effort to establish a single set of clear educational standards for English Language Arts/Literacy and Mathematics. The standards were created by a diverse group of teachers, experts, parents, and school administrators. They are designed to ensure that students graduating from high school are prepared to go to college or enter the workforce and that parents, teachers, and students have a clear understanding of what is expected of them. The standards are benchmarked to international standards to guarantee that our students are competitive in the emerging global marketplace.

How have the Common Core State Standards been integrated into the Thompson
School District?

Thanks to partnership and support from the Colorado Education Initiative, TSD is a leader in Colorado in the integration of the new Common Core Standards. Teachers and administrators are utilizing many of the new techniques and curriculum in Thompson classrooms. Please watch this video to learn more about the positive impact it is having on our students.
