FBC-R, School Capacity Standards
For planning purposes, Thompson School District's school capacity standards fall into three (3) categories for each level (elementary, middle school and high school): standard facility size, standard site size and standard acreage per student. The standards are as follows:
Standard Facility Size
For optimum instructional delivery and program accommodation, the standard facility size expressed in total student enrollment shall be:
- Elementary School,550 students
- K-8 School,900 students
- Middle School,900 students
- High School,1,500 students
Standard Site Size
For optimum instructional delivery and program accommodation, the standard site size expressed in total amount of land shall be:
- Elementary School,12 acres
- K-8 School,20 acres
- Middle School,30 acres
- High School,45 acres
Standard Acreage Per Student
Based on the standard facility and site sizes above, the ratio of land per student at each level (acreage divided by enrollment) is:
- Elementary School,.022 acres per student
- Middle School,.033 acres per student
- High School,.030 acres per student
Although current sites and facilities may vary above and below these standards, proposed future sites and facilities and/or additions to existing sites or facilities will be measured against these standards.
