JGA, Assignment of New Students to Classes and Grade Levels
Students transferring from other schools shall be placed upon evaluation of available academic records.
New students transferring from other public schools and accredited private schools shall be placed in grades and classes based on the student's grade placement/credits from the previous school and any other pertinent information available. If after appropriate information has been gathered and evaluated, it appears that the student should be placed in a grade other than that suggested by the previous placement, the reassignment shall be effected within a month after the student is admitted in the Thompson schools.
Where sufficient information to direct a placement decision is not available from the student's previous school, or if the student has been enrolled in a home-based education program or other school not accredited by the Colorado Department of Education, the principal and building staff may place the student based on testing, interviews and other pertinent information.
Each school may require a student to demonstrate a satisfactory level of achievement before accepting credit for graduation based on non-accredited instruction.
In order to eliminate barriers and facilitate the on-time grade level progression and graduation of students Thompson School District will evaluate available academic records to ensure all credits are represented and awarded including partial credit. Students, parents or guardians may appeal decisions made in implementing this policy.
