KI, Visitors/Guests to Schools
The Board of Education encourages visitations to schools by parents/guardians and community members. Visitations shall be during the school’s normal operating hours and are welcome throughout the school year. The purpose of visits shall be to observe school related activities, functions, and classroom sessions or to enhance the classroom experience as invited by district employees.
The district will make reasonable efforts to accommodate visitors/guests, yet recognizes the need to provide for the safety and welfare of students and to not disrupt the learning environment. Therefore, the district limits visitors to:
-
Parents/Guardians of currently enrolled students in the school
-
Other family members of currently enrolled students having the approval of the parent/guardian and for the purpose of official business
-
Board of Education members
-
District employees for official business
-
Guests invited by the district for official business
School security protocols require all visitors check in at the school office immediately upon entering the school and prior to visiting activities, functions, and classrooms. Check in at the school shall require the visitor to:
-
Sign in on the visitor’s log
-
Show valid government-issued identification, if so requested
-
Display (wear) a visitor nametag which shall include the visitor’s name
-
Guests invited for the purpose of enhancing the classroom experience shall be screened for background check
The visitor may be accompanied by a district employee for all or part of the visit. School administrators may require additional procedures pertaining to visitors in order to maintain a safe and orderly learning environment.
Unauthorized persons may not loiter on school property at any time. Law enforcement authorities may be called to enforce this policy provision.
Visiting schools is a privilege which may be denied, limited, or revoked by a school administrator or designee in his or her sole discretion based on considerations pertaining, but not limited to, student and/or employee health, safety, school orderliness, disruptions to the learning environment, interference with students, interference with employees, or failure to comply with Board policy.
