Financial Services
The Financial Services Department plays a vital role in ensuring the fiscal health and operational efficiency of Thompson School District.
Our dedicated team works behind the scenes to manage financial transactions, safeguard resources, and support the district’s commitment to excellence in education. We oversee various financial functions, ensuring that every dollar is handled with accountability and transparency.
Accounting and Financial Oversight
At the core of our operations, accounting ensures that all financial transactions are recorded accurately and comply with regulatory standards. Accounts payable manages vendor payments, ensuring that purchase order payments, purchasing cards, and petty cash reimbursements are handled efficiently. Staff members who travel for work-related duties can rely on our team to process mileage reimbursements in a timely manner.
Budgeting and Financial Planning
Sound financial planning is key to supporting student success. Our budgeting team works closely with district leaders to allocate resources effectively, ensuring that funds are directed where they are needed most. We also oversee capital (fixed) assets, maintaining an accurate record of district-owned properties and resources.
Additionally, our department plays a crucial role in charter school monitoring, ensuring these schools comply with financial policies and regulations. Each year, we publish the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, providing transparency into the district’s financial health.
Debt Management and Investments
Our team is essential in managing district debt. We handle debt management, including issuing bonds, refunding existing debt, and monitoring debt levels to maintain financial stability. The department also oversees investments, ensuring that district funds are managed responsibly and generate returns to support future initiatives.
