Student Data Privacy
Thompson School District is dedicated to keeping student information safe and secure. The district follows state and federal privacy laws and is committed to providing students, staff, and the community with resources and tools to help them understand and protect student data.
We understand that choosing the right digital resources requires careful consideration of both educational value and data privacy. The district works to ensure that digital tools used in classrooms align with learning goals while also meeting state and federal expectations for student data protection.
Protecting Student PII
The district collects and uses student data to support learning, improve instructional and operational practices, evaluate staff, and meet state and federal requirements. We gather only the information necessary to provide educational services and fulfill required reporting. Some student Personally Identifiable Information, or PII, such as enrollment details and performance data, is shared with the Colorado Department of Education as part of mandated state reporting. Information about required state data elements is available through the CDE Data Portal.
In addition to state reporting, the district maintains directory information and confidential student record information within its internal systems. Directory information, such as a student’s name, grade level, participation in activities, and honors, may appear in school publications unless a family opts out. All other student record information is considered confidential and is protected under FERPA and district policy, and may only be accessed or shared as permitted by law.
To review the data elements collected and submitted to the Colorado Department of Education as part of our required state reporting, please visit the CDE Data Portal.
