Student Internship Program

Innovative Technology Services partners with our High Schools to offer hands-on experience for T.S.D. students in our work-based learning opportunity! Course 5092 is open to all high schoolers interested in the field of technology. Students learn customer service, ethics, problem solving, hardware/software troubleshooting, and earn a certification as student device repair technicians. They also work alongside I.T.S. staff to provide tech support at their school. With over 20 students enrolled district-wide, this course helps students explore tech as a career option while supporting their school community.

In this class, students learn how to:

  • Fix both software and hardware issues
  • Gain customer support skills
  • Learn how a professional I.T. department works
  • Obtain a professional certification for Chromebook repairs

Student interns help their peers with school-issued device problems and, after training, assist staff with audio-visual equipment, printing, and software problems.

Experience Highlight

In March, our ITS interns and apprentices went on a field trip to a vendor’s new warehouse and showcase/networking event. Watch the video to hear about their experience!

Why should I be a part of this program?

Students earn half a credit per semester in this program, which counts toward the "Applied Arts" graduation requirement. Some may even qualify for paid work during school breaks and in-service days. This opportunity can lead to technical pathways at Thompson Career Campus, a 2,000-hour paid apprenticeship with I.T.S., and provides valuable experience and references for college or job applications.

This class is a work-based learning experience, and students must apply and interview to enroll. Successful interns are trustworthy, responsible, team players with an interest in tech—no prior experience needed. Students can choose to participate for one semester, for the rest of their high school career, or anywhere in between.

To apply to be a student intern:

  1. Ask three teachers to be a reference

  2. Browse to Xello in Classlink

  3. Browse “opportunities” at “Thompson School District” for “IT Technical Support Internship”

  4. Fill out the application and wait to be contacted for an interview.
