Excusing Students from State Assessments
Colorado Revised Statute 22-7-1013(8)(A-C) requires schools to administer statewide assessments to all students in grades 3 through 11 in reading, writing, and mathematics, grades 5, 8 and 11 in science, and grades 4 and 7 on a sampling basis in social studies*. In accordance with House Bill 15-1323, the Thompson School district has implemented board policy IKA-R for a parent to excuse their student from state assessments.
The school and district will not impose any negative consequences on the student or parent, if a parent completes the paperwork for their student to be excused from state and federally required assessments including CMAS, PSAT and SAT.
Please contact your school administrator for additional requirements for excusing your child from state assessments.
*Social Studies CMAS will not be administered in 2024
