2025 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.- Pre-K - 12th Grade Student Contest

2025 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Student Art, Music, and Writing Contest for Pre-K–12th grade. Theme: "A More Excellent Way, of Love."

We are excited to tell you about the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration for 2025! This year’s theme is “A More Excellent Way, of Love.”

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. dreamed of a world where everyone is free and treated fairly. He believed that we’re all stronger when we come together and help each other. Even when people are upset or hurt, Dr. King believed that love is a better answer than anger or violence.

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere…Whatever affects one directly affects all indirectly…There is a more excellent way, of love” (King, A Letter from Birmingham Jail, 1963).” This means that if one person is treated unfairly, it can hurt everyone. Dr. King wanted everyone to choose a path of kindness and love.

This year, we are inviting you to join our art, music, and writing contest! Show us your ideas about how we can create a world where everyone is free and treated with love, just like Dr. King dreamed.

New this year! For the first time, our contest will expand to include musical submissions as well. This format is open to all student grade levels Pre-K - 12, and we ask that students grades Pre-K - 5 have teacher sponsorship.

For all contest submissions:

  • All entries/participants will fill out an entry/submission form (physical artwork or printed essays can be dropped off at the TSD District office – see address below – and should still fill out an entry form);
