School Health Screenings

Per state guidelines, students in grades K, 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, and 9, as well as those referred by teachers, receive vision and hearing screenings. If a student does not pass a screening, parents/guardians are asked to provide the school nurse with a physician's response. Families may opt out by contacting their school's health office. Additional screenings are conducted as needed.

For the 2025-26 school year, the District Oral Health Team, composed of school nurses, participated in a pilot program and conducted oral health screenings (with parental permission) for grades K and 3rd in designated schools, specifically Lincoln Elementary and Sarah Milner Elementary. The District Health Services Team is excited to expand this program to additional schools during the 2026-27 school year.

In accordance with state recommendations from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, school nurses do not conduct classroom lice screenings. For guidance on prevention and treatment, please refer to Additional Health Resources. If you are concerned that your student has head lice, please contact the health office, where staff are trained to conduct screenings on a case-by-case basis.
