Restorative Practices
Restorative Practices in Thompson School District
Restorative Practices is defined as a set of guiding principles for the school community, which sees relationships as central to learning, growth and an equitable, respectful school culture. It is not a program, curriculum, or specific activity. (Restorative Solutions 2021)
In TSD we are committed to offering a multi-tiered Restorative Practices approach in all schools. The result of this approach is a community that (1) is committed to building and sustaining positive relationships, (2) encourages collaborative problem solving processes to address and repair harm, and (3) fosters a safe and inclusive school community.
Ways in which TSD supports the implementation of Restorative Practices:
-
ongoing professional development and support (PBIS, Restorative Practices, Trauma Informed, Social Emotional Learning)
-
implementation of various connection circles (Peacekeeper, Peace Circle, Morning Meeting, Connection Circles, Problem Solving Circles…)
-
use of restorative language
-
facilitation of mediations to solve problems
