Mental Health Co-Responder

If you or someone you know is experiencing a self-defined behavioral health crisis, call 1 (844) 493-TALK (8255) or text TALK to 38255. We can help manage your situation, provide immediate support and consultation, and connect you to resources. You can also call Summit Stone directly at (970) 494-4200 anytime day or night.

In early 2019, the LCSO Mental Health Co-Responder Unit was formed in response to an increasing number of mental health calls. Pairing patrol deputies with Summit Stone certified and licensed mental health counselors to respond directly to calls for service in the field.

This partnership has been extremely successful in saving a significant amount of time for the patrol deputies and connecting citizens with the services they need. Both deputies and the mental health counselors who serve on the co-responder unit are specifically selected for their knowledge, skills, and abilities in effective communication,  active listening, de-escalation, as well as their desire to serve and make a positive difference in the lives of those experiencing mental health illness or an acute mental health or emotional crisis.

School Resource Officers

The Thompson School District, in partnership with the Larimer County Sheriff's Office, is committed to fostering a safe and supportive learning environment through our School Resource Officer Program.

School Resource Officer (SRO) programs are founded as collaborative efforts by police agencies, law enforcement officers, educators, students, parents, and communities. The goal of SRO programs is to provide safe learning environments, provide valuable resources to school staff members, foster a positive relationship with students and develop strategies to resolve problems that affect our youth with the goal of protecting all children, so they can reach their fullest potential.

Roles and Responsibilities

Our SROs are specially trained deputies who serve multiple roles:

  • Safety and Security: They maintain a secure environment, respond to incidents, and develop safety plans in collaboration with school administrators.
  • Education and Mentorship: SROs teach classes on topics such as law-related education and substance abuse prevention, and act as mentors to guide students in making positive life choices.
  • Community Engagement: By building strong relationships with students, staff, and parents, SROs work to resolve issues affecting our youth and connect families with necessary resources.

Training and Collaboration

Our SROs undergo specialized training focusing on school safety, conflict resolution, and crime prevention. They collaborate closely with mental health professionals, such as the Youth Crisis Response Team, to provide comprehensive support to students in need.

Resources and Support

In addition to their daily responsibilities, SROs assist in crisis intervention and connect families with community resources to support student well-being.

For more information about the SRO program, visit the Larimer County Sheriff's Office website.

By working together, we aim to create a safe and nurturing environment where all students can thrive.
