School of Choice

You may enter your address in the School Locator to determine your neighborhood school(s).

Choice Enrollment (Resident Students)

Once enrolled in your school of choice, you do not need to apply again: Your student can remain enrolled through the highest grade the school serves, unless otherwise notified. You will need to complete a new Choice Enrollment application for the feeder school (grade 6 or 9) if you live outside of its attendance area.

If enrolled at a choice school, and you wish to return to your neighborhood school, you must apply to Return-To-Home.

If you move outside of Thompson School District's boundaries, you will need to apply via Open Enrollment annually. 

Open Enrollment (Non-Resident Students)

Once enrolled in your school of choice, you must apply annually. You will need to complete a new Open Enrollment application each year. Students who are Open Enrolled will have higher priority in the following years to remain in their school of choice and to limit student mobility.

All students should register at their neighborhood school to guarantee a seat. If the student is offered a seat and you have accepted the seat at a choice school, the registrar will update the enrollment and registration.

All fifth and eighth grade students advancing to the next-level school will be automatically enrolled at their boundary school regardless of their current school enrollment.

All students should proceed as though they will attend their boundary school until Choice/Open Enrollment seat offerings are received and accepted. 

Please meet with your boundary school representatives and register for classes while awaiting results.

Students who have been offered and have accepted a seat to their choice school will have their enrollment, registration, and course requests transferred from their boundary school to the choice school.

Your student will attend the boundary school based on the current address. 

Choice Enrollment/Open Enrollment applicants who are not offered a seat will be waitlisted until space becomes available.

 

You must use your child’s resident address, which is defined as where the child sleeps on school nights. If a child sleeps at multiple homes, it is up to the parents to determine which is the primary residence for the student. Only one address may be used.

Only one application per family is needed and each student is listed individually. 

In almost all circumstances, TSD will not provide transportation to choice or open enrolled students.

Choice and Open Enrollment processes are not for preschool students. Please visit the Early Childhood website for more information on how to enroll your student. 

 If your student changes their mind before the first day of school and does not want to attend the requested Choice Enrollment school they can still attend their boundary school.

Please withdraw the Choice Enrollment application through the Family Dashboard, and complete a return to boundary form, which is available through the school office. 

If the change occurs during the summer, please contact your boundary school front office staff when they return from summer break.
